چکیده

This paper presents a fast ray tracing procedure based on triangular division of the propagation environments. Unlike some accelerating methods based on pre-establishment of visibility, this method does not need the position information of base station and/or receiving antennas and is thus more general. Although the triangulation is in a two-dimensional plane, this method is suitable for three-dimensional cases when proper data structure for buildings is constructed. Validation results showed good agreement between calculated and measured data from the European COST 231 project. The improvement in the computational efficiency was clearly demonstrated in examples.

Abstract—Radio signal propagation prediction plays an essential role in planning of modern broadband mobile radio

role in planning of modern broadband mobile radio networks. While the less accurate statistical models predict only the path loss, the more precise ray tracing techniques enable computation of additional parameters, e.g. the mean delay and the delay spread, which are significant for the 4G network planning. The existing ray tracing methods are mainly applied in the indoor and narrow urban envir...

A Quasi Three-dimensional Ray Tracing Method Based on the Virtual Source Tree in Urban Microcellular Environments

The increase in mobile communications traffic has led to heightened interest in the use of ray tracing (RT) methods together with digital building databases for obtaining more accurate and efficient propagation prediction in urban microcellular environments. In this paper, a novel quasi three-dimensional (3-D) RT algorithm is presented by taking into account the advantages of both the image the...

An Efficient Algorithm for Radiowave Coverage Prediction in Urban Microcells

This work presents an algorithm to perform radiowave coverage predictions in urban environments using the Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD). The ray-tracing algorithm is based on the image theory for a quasi-3D environment. Multiple reflections and diffractions are considered through the separation of multipath components into four different classes, used to determine the scattered field. The...

Quasi-Ray Gaussian Beam Algorithm for Time-Harmonic Two-Dimensional Scattering by Moderately Rough Interfaces

Gabor-based Gaussian beam (GB) algorithms, in conjunction with the complex source point (CSP) method for generating beam-like wave objects, have found application in a variety of high-frequency wave propagation and diffraction scenarios. Of special interest for efficient numerical implementation is the noncollimated narrow-waisted species of GB, which reduces the computationally intensive compl...

An efficient implementation of a three-dimensional microcell propagation tool for indoor and outdoor urban environments

The increase in mobile communications traffic has led to heightened interest in the use of deterministic propagation methods together with digital building and terrain databases for propagation prediction in urban areas. Ray methods have been particularly popular, and there are many papers in the literature describing the performance of various approaches to ray tracing. This paper will describ...
